Nashville shouldn't tolerate tacky decorations on Musica
-
My friend wrote this letter to the editor last week, and the crotchety old man (<3 u Stephen) has a point. I loved the first few times that the Nashville nudies got dressed up in the middle of the night - all decked out in traditional Irish costumes for St. Patty’s Day, fitted with oversized Preds jerseys and a Stanley Cup, even when they became a mishmash of kilts, Preds jerseys and Jack Daniel’s beekeeper masks.
And then people had to go and ruin it. There were red plastic cups draped all over the statues for more than a month, and they would have remained if some, ahem, good samaritans hadn’t intervened. There were feather boas tied to the statues’ ankles for a few days, no idea what that was about. I drove past a crowd of drunk college students climbing and swinging from the statues while hanging a spray-painted-bedsheet political sign a couple weekends ago. It really bums me out that something that started out as fun, whimsical and engaging for the community has turned into tacky pandering for ACM votes and tasteless political marketing.
This is why we can’t have nice things.

Cheers, weekend, etc.
This weekend I accomplished a lot, and I am proud of myself, so here is a list:
- Handed off a very complicated and headache-y tax situation to an awesome and fairly-priced accountant, which is the equivalent of taking care of it in my book
- Seasoned my cast iron pan (seriously, six rounds in the oven took basically all weekend and as a bonus, I smelled like singed oil all weekend)
- Had my car battery tested to confirm my suspicion that I need to buy a new one
- Took old paint and fire extinguishers to the hazardous waste facility, took excessive cardboard to the recycling center and dropped a bunch of stuff off at Goodwill
- Completely cleaned out the sunroom in my house by moving all of the things that have been sitting there for over a year to the shed in the backyard
- Dismantled, cleaned and reassembled the fridge, inspired by the shiny new washer & dryer that my landlord had delivered on Saturday
- Caught up on Codeyear
- Cleaned out my file box that was full of paperwork from 2005
- Purchased and shipped a birthday gift to a friend
- Knocked down my Hulu and Netflix queue like a champ
- Mopped the floors. All of them. They had not been mopped since running out of Swiffer refills, which is to say, over a year ago
- Designed a logo for my bff’s etsy store (I am not a designer by any means, but I’m proud of what I came up with)
- Got an amazing lunch from my favorite food truck, spent an afternoon running errands with aforementioned bff (and spending way too much money at Target, damn you Jason Wu), enjoyed an evening at 3 Crow with many friends, sipped a bottle of wine (over three days, an exercise in moderation), got in some time practicing critical skating skills and saw two movies that I waited far too long to see (The Artist and A Separation, both highly recommended).
I’m going to use the next hour to knock out some nagging work tasks and clear out the Nashvillest inbox and Google Reader account, then go to bed early. Hopefully I can maintain some of this mysterious productivity streak through the week.
Edit: Oh, hey, it’s 3am. What was that about going to bed early?

Why yes, I did just stay up until 3am doing Codeyear lessons. Is it possible for me to get any less cool? I think not.

It took less than four minutes for me to completely lose my mind over this album. Holy hell, it’s good.
